I see the world in interfaces, interfaces are the world. Everything is an interface. Everything.
The word “interface” has been co-opted by the tech industry to basically refer to your screen. While your screen is indeed a type of interface, I think it’s important to remember that the word “interface” has a much more profound meaning.
I define an “interface” as the place where two entities meet, which is closer to the Merriam-Webster official definition. Think about the interface between two molecules, governed by physical laws of interaction. Think about the interface between two wild animals, governed by biological laws. Think about the interface between two people, governed by social laws. These are the complex, lively, sometimes miraculous interfaces I like to think about day and night.
Who am I?
My name’s Nic. I research AI interfaces at Imbue. I also take photos, almost always with Leica’s.
For even looser thoughts, I sometimes ramble on Twitter.
